urban canoe adventure

02May09

img_0757…without the car, in our neighbourhood ‘lake’.  Much of our adventure time was spent trying to develop a system for portaging my brother-in-law’s canoe down an alleyway, along five blocks and across two busy streets.  Much of our paddling time was spent scooping up plastic bags and abandoned dog toys.  Nope, actually, much of it was spent with me and AZ lounging in the middle of the canoe, while E and S paddled us in circles and W swooshed the water around with a plastic shovel… ahh, I mean paddle.  It was so good.  Fresh lattes would have made it even better!  I think we are ready for an overnight trip somewhere more pristine.  Does anyone know of a good place to paddle with kids in Southwestern BC?  Something we can do in a weekend?

Friends of mine have paddled with their kids from Science World to English Bay and Granville Island etc. Another fun urban paddling adventure for you!
I have to say, I’m impressed! I would never have thought to take a boat to Trout Lake! Maybe we should bring our little Pico sailboat there!

    Awesome!
My parents used to take us on overnight trips in Georgian Bay when we were little, but that’s a tad far. How about Golden Ears? There’s a nice, calm lake and I think there are campsites dotting the shore.

Inspired once again. You need to look into rigging a sail on the Peach, then the downwind is really exhilarating.

Ali and I are looking into a canoe also…. just need a place to keep it.
